Introduction – Mr Pool Builder
Q. Mr Pool Builder… what is it you do?A. You know when you go on vacation to a nice Hotel. You wake in the morning and find yourself a quiet spot in the resort pool… Well, I help families create their own resort style pools in the backyard of their own homes. More than that, I help those people build it themselves
Q. Wow, how do you do that?
I am a contractor that builds pools in Perth Western Australia. This year alone I have built 60 pools in the Perth metropolitan area. For large Pool companies, Builders, developers, and private clients. I give people all the information they need and show them all the building techniques I use to build resort style pools
Q. So why a blog? and why call it The Pool Builders Bible
A. Pool building may have a lot of challanges, unfortunately few of them are intellectal. While I enjoy building it does not give me opportunities to develop other interests that I have, such as the internet. Having a presence on the internet is someting I feel can offer me different challenges, learning and teaching. I hope to be able to share my experiences and knowledge of how to build inground concrete swimming pools. I also hope to learn from others in the industry from around the world. I call it the Bible because I want it to be no nonsense kind of information (much like the Bible)
Q. Ive never heard of a tradesman who can actually type…. Mr Pool Builder, if you show everyone how to build a pool wont you have to find another job?
No I do not think I will have to find another job. Not everyone wants to build their own pool. Not everyone has the time, nor the equipment. I have decided to write this information to help wanna be DIYers do the job properly and to make the task as stress free and rewarding as possible.
Q. Why would you help a DIYer, why not just refer them to a pool company, or someone else?
A. They are much like myself. They are parents of children, they are physically hard working people, they have the can do attitude. I help them because of that and I think that anyone is capable of building a pool, with some help. I decided that I would be the person who tells them the how? the why? and the when. There are many reasons why a person may feel the need to build themselves a pool. Financial reasons, personal reasons, time constraints, etc.. The person who wants to build their own pool will do exactly that. They will make mistakes, they will make a mess, they will do things wrong, and then they will likely call someone and ask for help. There is no information for them. If you want to build your own pool or contract out the work yourself, this site will help you. You will know what you can do, what you can do to help, and who you should get to help you.
Q. So Mr pool builder why do you build pools?
A. It would have to be the ideal way of waking up in the morning. You stretch your weary muscles, roll out of bed. pick up the paper from the front door, and sit beside your pool, eating a healthy morning breakfast. or You come home from work on a hot summers day, you take off your smelly socks, and do a bomb in your pluge pool. Pools are fun to have. Building a pool can be rewarding. It can be an expression of yourself.
No matter who you are, and what stage you are in your life a pool can be the center for all your family entertainment. For you, your friends, family and the neighbours. Watch the following video. Its just for laughs and no one was hurt.

It is definitely possible to build your own pool and save a lot of money. I know this because I specialise in training tradesmen in how to exceed their clients expectations.
One of the safest things you can do to ensure that you do not get taken advantage of is to ask for three clients that they have done work for that you can contact and talk to so you know what your tradesmen is really like.
Good luck , you will have a great experience if you get the testimonials and check their licenses.

Hi there, this really does not apply to your site at all but we are a lovely kiwi couple in NZ and we are looking at moving to OZ. My partner is a experienced concrete pool builder and I would like to know where would be the best place to look for jobs, have tried seek and AU job search, is there any other good sites that you might be aware of. Thanks Georgina

Hey mate, I have just had plans drafted up for my pool very simple 4mx2m L shape thats 1.5m deep and I am pretty keen to have a crack at it myself. I have some plastering experience (sand finish) and I work with concrete every day (concrete repairs not grano). Am I able to get your book as itś written?? I would like to start it this year. I have a question, What stipulates the rio spacing? Obviously structural integrity, but have seen some that are 100-150mm apart, very comprehensive, and looking at the footage of the guy spraying on the concrete, the rio seemed to be at least 300-350mm apart? (unless he was really small, I was using him as my gauge!)
Awesome site, I cant believe this exists, very well thought out, very clear, very precise, well done!!! Dale

My interest in this site started as a romantic gesture… my boyfriend owns a Plastering company serving North and South Carolina, USA (Carolina Pool Plastering)and in order to understand his lingo I decided to study Pool Construction and Plastering. In addition to the fact that I am a Realtor and any type of additional knowledge I can acquire will certainly help my clients. I find your site to be excellent! I’ve learned so much. I was hoping you had a video on plastering the pool. It may not be a big deal but as the “Fine art of concrete” it should be impressive. Also… how do you calculate the cost of a pool? Thank you very much for providing us with all this knowledge!

Hi. I’m very interested in what you are doing here, thatnk you very much.
As a suggestion, a very handy feature would be a sort of online tool to assist people in working out a rough budget for a DIY shotcrete pool.
Keep up the good work, can;t wait to see your book.
